Tips to keep your Hair in Tip-Top Shape
Everyone wants a beautiful, healthy head of hair, but with so much information on what to do and which products to use, it can be confusing. These tips will help you choose the best ways to keep your hair in tip-top (pun intended!) condition.
Did you know that hair cells are the fastest growing cells in your body? Like all cells, hair cells are also affected by what we eat. Having great hair starts from the inside. A well-balanced diet which includes foods rich in protein and iron is essential. Iron-rich foods include leafy vegetables, fish, beans, chickpeas and cereals. Proteins are found in cheese, milk, soy, lentils, peas, eggs and meat.
- Hair Care and Maintenance
Don’t wash your hair every day and when you do, use a shampoo and conditioner that is suitable for your hair type. Use shampoo sparingly (some hair experts recommend diluting your shampoo with a little water before applying it to your hair). Apply conditioner to the hair shaft only, not onto your scalp. Rinse off conditioner with cold water as this is good for strength and shine. And remember, your hair is most fragile when wet, so use a wide-toothed comb to gently comb through your hair from the roots to the ends.
- Use Good-Quality Hair Products
Read the labels on hair products and familiarise yourself with recommended ingredients. If you have a sensitive scalp, you’ll want to avoid products which contain sulphates. Sulphates increase the lather (foam) which helps remove dirt and oil from hair, but these can also strip your scalp of its natural oils.
- Use Heat Protection before Drying
Be careful when using heat like hairdryers, hair irons or curlers, to style your hair. It’s best to apply a serum first. A heat serum coats the hair shafts and protects hair from the harsh effects of heat.
- Deep-Condition Hair every few weeks
Using a hair masque or an oil treatment will do wonders to improve the condition of your hair. These are easily available at salons and pharmacies, but make sure you get one that is suitable for your hair type.
- Trim Hair Regularly
Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to remove any split ends. Cutting about 2cm at the ends also encourages healthy growth.
- Feed your hair from the inside
And lastly, we highly recommend taking a hair supplement which will take care of your hair from the inside.
